CREWED YACHT DELIVERY

OceanTrax Yacht Delivery UK offer a first class worldwide yacht delivery service for sailing and power vessels. Whether it’s a small coastal trip or an ocean crossing, all deliveries are carried out with meticulous care and attention. Safety for the vessel and crew is always paramount. We are used by individuals and businesses and operate to the highest standards ensuring we understand and fulfil our clients’ requirements and expectations.

We aim to make the delivery of your boat as smooth as possible with clear concise pricing and a high level of professionalism from initial contact to end hand over.

A TYPICAL BOAT DELIVERY

Most delivery passages are undertaken with a minimum of three crew. On transatlantic crossings and when insurance requests, four crew maybe required. The Skipper will always be RYA/MCA Yacht Master or higher qualified and will have been assessed by OceanTrax Yacht Delivery UK and matched to a vessel suitable to their experience. The First Mate will be fully qualified and have the relevant experience to work as First Mate. Deckhands will be from Day Skipper level upwards and assessed on experience.

BEFORE DELIVERY

Before departure, crew will thoroughly check the vessel using our detailed checklist , including the safety equipment and on-board systems before provisioning and preparing the vessel for the forthcoming passage. This process usually takes 24 hours. At this stage, if any problems are found which may affect the delivery the owner will be alerted and a solution found. Woodwork and upholstery below deck is protected in foam padding and bubble wrapped to avoid damage while at sea.

This protection is particularly important on new vessels. Rigs are thoroughly checked and split pins taped to avoid damage to sails. Mast spreaders are also often wrapped to avoid rubbing marks on sails. Our guide to 'Checking your Rigging' can be found on our Blog Page here.

ENROUTE

Once underway, a boat delivery usually runs for 24 hours without stops unless weather does not permit. A watch system will be put in place (you can find out more about watch systems in our Blog 'Yacht Delivery Watchkeeping' here). This is at the skipper’s discretion and will be suitable to the vessel, number of crew, length of passage and weather. Each delivery has a time allocated and an estimated rate of progress. For sail boats, this progress will be under sail whenever possible. However, if the wind is light the engine will be used to maintain the schedule.

During a boat delivery we will keep you informed of progress at every available opportunity. The safety of the vessel and crew is always paramount and it is our priority not to over-stress a vessel. Our skippers understand this and will always make judgements based on the crew, vessel and prevailing weather conditions. On arrival at the end destination, a detailed Condition Report will be available to the owner and the vessel will be thoroughly cleaned.
