Sasga Yacht Delivery

Updated: Jan 28

Oceantrax was recently given the responsibility of transporting a newly built Sasga 54 to Portsmouth.

Sasga motor yachts are built in Menorca, which is where our journey began. When we arrived at the factory in Mahon, we had the chance to explore the facility and observe the construction process.

Sasga yachts are built using a combination of advanced construction techniques, including;

  • Vacuum-infused hulls, these hulls are lightweight but robust, and are designed to absorb choppy seas.

  • PVC foam cores are used in both the hulls and decks.

These construction techniques endow Sasga with outstanding sea-keeping abilities, complemented by their sturdy build. This was evident on the return trip to the UK, where we faced a range of conditions from flat calm to a very choppy English Channel.

The History of Sasga Yachts

Sasga Menorquin yachts have a long history on the island of Menorca.

Starting 1978, Juan Sastre established "Astilleros Menorca," setting the stage for Sasga Yachts with the goal of designing yachts inspired by the traditional Mediterranean fishing vessel, the llaüt.

The initial boats, named 'Conquistador,' were simple 8m (26ft) models. Over time, the shipyard expanded its range. By 1985, it had developed a 10m (33ft) llaüt, and in 1997, the 13m (43ft) Menoquin Yacht represented a significant milestone.

Despite its modest size, this strategic move achieved international acclaim. In 2001, Juan Sastre handed over control to Jose Luis Sastre, beginning a phase of growth with yachts ranging from 16m to 18m (53ft to 59ft) in length.

Sasga Yachts was formally founded in 2010 with the introduction of the Menorquin 42. Over the following years the range continued to expand with the largest now being the Menorquin 68 Flybridge with a length of 20 meters and a beam of 6 meters.

Sasga Menorquin is celebrated for customising boats to meet owners' preferences and for the exceptional craftsmanship witnessed during our factory tour.

The pictures below demonstrate the quality of craftsmanship put in to each individual boat produced by the company.

We appreciate Sasga for giving us a tour of their factory (and for the complimentary T-shirt!) before we embarked on the yacht delivery to Portsmouth aboard the magnificent Sasga 54.
